Spokesperson: Exxon Mobil confirms leaving Russia

WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (PRIME) -- A spokesperson for U.S. oil and gas company Exxon Mobil Corp confirmed to PRIME on Tuesday its quitting Russia and called discontinuation of participation in Sakhalin-1 expropriation.

"I can confirm that we have quit Russia safely after the expropriation… The Russian government liquidated our participation in Sakhalin-1 unilaterally by two orders, while the project was granted to a Russian operator," the official said.

The official did not disclose whether the company received compensation for the assets valued at more than U.S. $4 billion or whether it had plans to contest the decision of Russian authorities in international arbitration.
